I wait for that time of the year when the skies turn scarlet in Bangalore
and the ground turns into red sea during evenings filled with golden yellow light.
Here above is a drop from that scarlet ocean
and the picture below, an attempt at capturing its beauty in a drawing.
My grandmother's house had a red Gulmohar tree growing beside a jewel green moss covered well. Every year during that time I visited for school holidays, it would burst into red bloom.
So many years later I tried to capture the beauty of that memory in a painting.
I am glad these trees are still around.

Incredibly beautiful Priya :)
So glad you enjoyed it Rima :)
Sigh...HOW I miss the Gulmohar! It meant so many things...did you ever eat the flowers? You should if you haven't :-)
Hubby has planted a small Gulmohar, he tends to it like a baby...covers it with frost covers every evening in the winter, removes the cover when the sun is out..yet, its only about 10 inches tall, and no leaves :( Hopefully his hard work and care will pay off!
ha ha the sketch reminded me of my high school biology diagrams :)
familiar sights yet so beautiful.
Beautiful!!! All: the pictures, the words, and of course: your drawings - I can imagine what Bangalore must look like when those trees are blooming! Thank you for this wonderful post!
The blooming Gulmohar represents summer vacations for me too!
Looks like everyone who lives in Bangalore (and in the South) has their breath taken away by the Gulmohar :)
little pink cakes: scarlet red must be very different from the muted colours of the trees of berlin in your pictures :)
deep power and mystery brought up through your drawing.
I dont know about the real tree, but the one in the picture is GORGEOUS!!
awesome it is..love the shading in the painting:)
Priya, just wandered in from Vineeta's; loved your blog. This one was specially poignant. :-)
Welcome to my blog Shri :)
The Gulmohar brings back many memories of Mysore to me :) I love the your painting,it brings back the comforting warmth of driving/walking past these trees.
Thank you Kaveri :)
