Those Great Big Mouths

Why is it so difficult
for so many people to listen?
Why do they start talking
when there is something to hear?
Do they have their ears not on the
sides of their heads?
But situated inside their mouths?
So when they hear something
Their first impulse is to start talking?

                              ~ John Cage

It has been such a long time since I did an ‘ illustration’. Last year I did tons of charcoal drawings for my exhibition and this is the first time I have illustrated since then. In colour! Of course since the subject is a recurring theme on The Plum Tree blogs, it was beyond doubt that when I saw John Cage’s quote on The Plum Tree @ Tumblr I just had to push  everything else aside and illustrate it.

The other extreme, folks who do not talk at all, but simply assume what THEY think is right, is also very dangerous!

this is masst, does it go with a story or anything?

A perfect illustration for John Cage's quote. I think that mouth could demolish a whole cake in 2 seconds flat.

Would be very good if some folks talked alot less !

Love your illustration here, and it also immediately made me think of another somewhat famous illustration, which you can see right away why I thought of it if you go to Google Images and type "Court of Crimson King"...

K: Thanks babe. It is an illustration for John Cage's quote.

Robyn: Well then it must be my mouth, or even more likely the mouth eating cake in front of me at Rahila's Cake Place.

Owen: Thanks for the link. Alas, I shall henceforth always be associated with wide open mouths (quiet person that I am ) thanks to this illustration.
