This is a trial illo for a poem. I was surprised at what turned up on paper.
Sometimes I start with one person in mind and someone else turns up.
I haven't used graphite pencil in ages. The last time I did was here. And no wonder. Each time I use this wretched medium I keep thinking how much I dislike mediums with points. You have to know exactly what you want and you get exactly that. There are no surprises in store like what happens with charcoal. I finally ended up using the pencil like I do charcoal and that is when this strange personality emerged.

I love this drawing Priya!
And can identify with that using one medium like another thing.. think I always work like that!
Thank you Rima :)
Hi Priya!
I have been following your blog for months now, you have an interesting perspective on a lot of things around. love your work! :)
i agree with you, so many times, you sit down to sketch somethig in mind, but the pen sketches away something else alltogether
Thank you mou, and hello!
I love this drawing. It is superb.
Thanks! I presume this is Mridula Koshy?
But who on earth could he be, this old coot ??? Frankly, I think he looks a little shady, maybe even dangerous. I think he has done time in prison for counterfeiting money maybe. I'm not sure he has a very good diet, he's been eating too many fatty foods, also probably has breath that smells like strong garlic and munster cheese...
:-)
You have been very intuitive and insightful Owen. I think you have special powers. All that you've deduced about Old Coot is absolutely correct!
I love it when readers let their imagination get carried away by my pictures :) :)
it's been ages since I've used graphite pencil - actually, ages since I've drawn at all, writing seems to consume my life these days. But your drawings make me miss it.
Go, you're so good. Graphite or not, I love love the results, i love the precision the fine-ness & the detail. About the man, how fanstastically you have made him come alive. How you make me want to draw.
This is really an amazing drawing. Exquisitely rendered. He's a shifty old uncle...
